Pre-history of the Philippines & Print Media

We were given a link to two sites which each contained an article. The first was about the pre-history of the Philippines and the other was an article about print media. 


The instructions were that each of us had to create our own powerpoint presentations regarding what we learned about the two articles, and on the next meeting, Sir Haren will randomly pick two people to present so everyone of us had to be prepared.

Janu and Samantha were the first two to be picked, but Sir Haren wasn't satisfied enough with their presentation so two people were randomly picked again to present. Unna and Regie were the next to be picked and they presented the summary of the first article, and discussed the second. We were able to understand the main points of the two articles more clearly and what they were about.

Controlled & Uncontrolled Media

Sir Haren started the class by introducing "controlled" and "uncontrolled" media.  Controlled media  are the kind that can be created and  controlled  by the firm such as advertisement, speeches, paid programs, and employee newsletters while uncontrolled  media  are the kind that cannot be   controlled  by the firm such as television, radio, and newspapers. After the discussion of the topic, the class was divided into four groups and we were each assigned our side for the debate. There was controlled vs. uncontrolled media , and the other two groups were new vs. traditional media . During the debate, every one of us had a chance to speak, rebut, and argue our points. At the end of the meeting, we learned the advantages and disadvantages of each sides, and we were able to learn more about each of the topics through the debate.

#EmpowermentTechnologies

The second hashtag for the semester is, #EmpowermentTechnologies September 24, 2018 — Monday On this meeting of M.I.L., we compared using technology vs the traditional way through playing a game. We used technology first and played “The World’s Hardest Game” on our computers. It was hard indeed, but definitely doable with much patience and strategizing needed. I managed to get until Level 4, with 200+ trials.  Using technology in gaming is definitely much more common nowadays. It’s more advanced, innovative, and living in this digital age has brought gaming in the palm of our hands with the use of smartphones, computers, and consoles. After half of the period, we moved back into our classrooms and played a game called “Spot the Difference” the traditional way, which involved a pen and a paper. #OralCommunication II

Media Literacy vs. Information Literacy Our second #OralCommunication activity is comparing Media Literacy and Information Literacy through the use of a venn diagram or any type of chart that would show the similarities and the differences between the two. My Media Literacy & Information Literacy Comparison Diagram After making our individual diagrams, we were grouped the next meeting and we had to make a presentation comparing Media and Information literacy , with the help of our compiled diagrams.  Each group then presented in front of the class and explained the similarities and differences of Media and Information Lit., through their own creative ways of presentation. Some groups did roleplaying while others made PowerPoints. This activity helped us to distinguish the differences between Media and Information literacy , which is important especially in the age of technology, and will also help us in effectively evaluating, analyzing, and creating
